Hello lovelies! Today I have the first week of Essie's 2017 advent calendar to share with you. My boyfriend's mum was lovely enough to gift this to me, and I couldn't have been more excited! Instead of trying to share the contents daily, and to avoid too many spoilers, I've decided to split the goodies into four weekly posts. So let's see what was inside between the 1st and 7th of December!
Day 1 was a full size 'Fishnet Stockings', a deep, rich red creme. The formula is very smooth and easy to apply. It is a bit more of a jelly formula like most other reds, although is nicely opaque. The first coat is slightly sheer, but a second deepens the colour slightly and covers completely. Below is two coats with topcoat.
Day 2 was a mini bottle of 'Cocktail Bling', a pale, blue-toned grey creme. It has a smooth and easy to apply formula, and good opacity. The first coat does go on a bit light and streaky, but a second brings it fully opaque. Below is two coats with topcoat.
Day 3 was a mini bottle of 'In the Mood Ring', a clear base packed full of black and gold glitters. This can be built up on it's own in two to three coats, or layered over black. I decided to layer it over black to make the gold glitter pop. It is easy to apply, and the glitters spread out evenly. It dries slightly textured but is easily smoothed with topcoat. Below is one coat (with topcoat) over black.
Day 4 was a mini glass nail file. I've said this a lot on my blog, but I only tend to use glass and crystal files, so this will come in very handy. I'll probably pop this into my bag as it's quite a nice travel size.
Day 5 was a mini (25ml) bottle of 'Good As Gone' remover. I honestly had no idea that Essie did own version of nail polish remover, so I look forward to giving this a good try!

Day 6 was a full size bottle of 'Licorice', a black creme. This has a very smooth and easy to apply formula, and is basically a one coater. I did add a second for some very minor streaks, but these pretty much disappeared as it self levelled anyway so it wasn't necessary. Below is two coats with topcoat.
Day 7 was a full size bottle of 'Mink Muffs', a soft brown creme described by Essie as a 'smoky plush taupe'. The formula is smooth and easy to apply. It is a little bit light and streaky on the first coat, but is easily evened out with a quick second. Below is two coats with topcoat.
So there we have it! The first full week of goodies from Essie.
What do you think? I've been loving my little nail surprises every day! The polishes so far seem to be all from previous collections, but I don't own too many Essies so I'm not too worried about getting dupes. I also don't like mini bottles often, but these are generously sized and have full size brushes. I should be back next Friday to share days 8-14.
It may be a week into December, but you can still find the Essie advent calendar on the Superdrug website here. It's also currently on sale for just £25 which is an absolute steal!
Hope to see you in the next post!

Love it. And like the fact you don’t just get minis, and it’s very unusual for a drug store Black to be so opaque on one store, Deffo running out to get one for myself :-)
