Hi lovelies! Tomorrow, May 12th, is the official awareness day for ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatgue Syndrome) and Fibromyalgia. The lovely Kirsty from FairyTales Nails unfortunately suffers with both of these, so together we created a nail link-up to spread awareness. There is also an exclusive polish prize for one lucky participant, donated by Opulent Essences - find out more on our Facebook event page here. Here is my contribution. Read on to find out more!
As the awareness colours are blue and purple, I decided on a blue to purple gradient using China Glaze 'UV Meant To Be' and 'Violet Vibes'. I started with a base of 'UV Meant To Be', a gorgeous bright baby blue. The formula was smooth and opaque in two coats (except a few spots where I was overly heavy handed). Below is two/three coats with topcoat.
To prepare for the mess of a gradient, I generously applied liquid latex around all of my nails (except my ring finger), and let it dry.
I then applied stripes of both 'UV Meant To Be', and 'Violet Vibes' onto a make-up sponge. I lined the sponge up on my nail where I wanted the colours to be, and dabbed and smooshed to create and blend my gradient. I went over each nail twice to build up a solid colour before removing the latex.
As a finishing touch, I used an awareness ribbon vinyl from nail-mail.co.uk on my ring finger. I believe these were made exclusively for Octobers Lucky Dip Pink MeeBox (post here).
I applied the vinyl and painted over it with China Glaze 'Violet Vibes', then removed it straight away. Finally, I topcoated all of my nails to remove any texture and seal in the design.
What do you think? I'm quite impressed! This is only the third or fourth gradient I've done, and it blended more than I expected for such different colours. I really need to start doing nail art more often - it's so much fun just to have a play! Remember to check out our awareness link-up below, and the gorgeous Kirsty's post here to find out more about both illnesses.
Hope to see you in the next post!
