Pink Ombre Gradient

Starting a blog really has inspired me to experiment a lot more with nail art. I've been wanting to do a proper gradient for a while. I tried quickly on one nail nearly a year and a half ago and never again since - until today. Being Breast Cancer Awareness month, I went with a pink ombre look. Read on to find out more!

I used three pink ORLY polishes - 'Cotton Candy', 'Pixy Stix' and 'Passion Fruit'. I started with a base of the lightest colour - 'Cotton Candy'. It was slightly thick but easy to work with, and opaque in two coats. It did apply slightly streaky so if you're not careful you may need a third coat to even everything out. Below is two coats and topcoat.

Before starting the gradient, I applied liquid latex around all of my fingernails. I nearly forgot this step but I'm glad I didn't as it gets messy!

I then painted stripes all three colours onto a make up sponge, and let it soak in for a few seconds. I did this a few times for the first nail to build up the polish in the sponge. I rolled the sponge across my nail and then dabbed a few times to try and blend the colours.

Once all of my nails were done, I did it a second time to make it stand out a bit more. The latex managed to catch most of the extra polish. After peeling it off I only needed a quick clean up. I added topcoat and voila! My first official gradient.

It isn't as blended as I'd hoped for, but unless you're looking close up you can't tell. Not bad for my first try! I'd love to hear what you all think, especially if you have any tips on creating that perfect gradient.

For those of you who may have missed it, I have created a link-up for all pink polishes and manis throughout the month to support October's Breast Cancer Awareness campaign. You can find it here. Thank you to all of the lovely ladies who have added to it so far!

See you in the next post!
