Halloween Splatter Nails

Hello! I've got another fun Halloween design for you all today. I had so much fun when I did my crime scene/murder mystery nails (post here) that I wanted to recreate something similar. I decided to do a simple splatter design with several Halloween colours over a black base.

I did consider doing a white base to make sure the splattered colours would show up, but I don't think it would look as Halloweeny - and I felt the contrast against the black might actually make the bright colours stand out more. Read on for more info and to see each stage!

For the black base I used True Brit London's 'Taxi Cab', which I received in Septembers Nailbox (post here). This is a very opaque polish. Those of you with short nails could probably get away with just the one coat - as usual my long nails required two. It also dried surprisingly shiny. Shown below is two coats and topcoat.

I picked out an orange (Essie 'Roarrrrange'), purple (China Glaze 'Violet Vibes) and green (China Glaze 'I'm With The Lifeguard) for my splatter colours. These are the colours I think of when it comes to Halloween.

I would definitely recommend using some sort of peel-off barrier or liquid latex for this, as it does get very messy. To splatter each colour I dipped a straw in the polish (making sure the opening of the straw was covered), held it over my nails, and blew. I started with my orange colour - Essie 'Roarrrrange':

I then used purple - China Glaze 'Violet Vibes':

And finally green - China Glaze 'I'm With The Lifeguard':

After removing the the liquid latex, there was hardly any clean up - yay! Depending on how well the polish splatters, this can end up super lumpy. If it splats properly it shouldn't be too bad, but any thick blobs will be well.. thick blobs. One thick coat of topcoat was enough for me as I don't mind a slightly lumpy finish, but you may want two.

So, it didn't work quite as well as before. I did end up with a few more blobs this time. I still love it - they scream Halloween to me. What do you think? Are you a fan of splatter nails? I think it's a technique I'll keep coming back to because it's so fun and easy.

Hope to see you in the next post!
