China Glaze 'Flip Flop Fantasy' vs. Models Own 'Beach Bag'.

China Glaze's 'Flip Flop Fantasy' is a summer staple in the nail world - if you don't already own the neon shade, you need it. When I finally got a bottle it instantly reminded me of Models Own 'Beach Bag' (from the Polish for Tans collection), so I compared the two over on Instagram. When Flip Flop Fantasy came in Augusts Nailbox (reviewed here), I decided to expand this into a blog post. Swatches after the jump!

Quick note: This is based on the newer version of Flip Flop Fantasy.

The two do look fairly different in the bottles, but slightly less so once swatched. Beach Bag is slightly pinker, and Flip Flop Fantasy is a bit brighter/more neon. I still couldn't decide if the two were massively different so I swatched them side by side on my nails.

On my nails, the difference is clearer. Again, Beach Bag is slightly darker and pinker, and Flip Flop Fantasy brighter and more coral. The main difference I found between the two polishes were the formulas. Beach Bag applied smoothly and was opaque in 2 coats. However, Flip Flop Fantasy applied streaky on the first coat, and needed at least 3 coats to even itself out.

I do have an embarrassing story to add. When I purchased Flip Flop Fantasy, I actually had Beach Bag on my toes. This is two coats and Seche Vite topcoat. (I apologise for adding foot/toe pictures to those who don't appreciate them)

By the time this started chipping I forgot which polish it was and reached for Flip Flop Fantasy - I didn't realise for a few days that this was wrong! I could only just about tell the difference. I will admit that I left this on for several weeks and the toes that had an added coat of Flip Flop Fantasy chipped off completely, whereas those with Beach Bag only had slight chips.

So, are they dupes? No - but they may be close enough that you don't need both. If you are happy to put the extra work in and add an extra coat or two, China Glaze's Flip Flop Fantasy is brighter. But if you're after a good formula and a longer wear time, then I would suggest Models Own Beach Bag. Or if you're an addict like me, you can just get both!

What do you think? Do you own either polish? Which do you prefer? Leave a comment and let me know.

Hope to see you in the next post!
